Where Does The Tower Go When the Fog Comes?
There's something we don't understand, hiding under San Francisco's ocean haze
This is another post that was originally intended to be image-only for instagram. The text that is overlaid on the images is reproduced below for screen readers.
Each number represents a new image slide. The background images are of Sutro tower covered in fog, and then eventually the tower photoshopped out of the images.
1. From my window I can see the fog as it climbs up the avenues and approaches Mt Sutro
2. Tired mornings bleed into tired days. It’s 5 o’clock and I’ve barely left the couch.
3. Where does the tower go when the fog comes?
4. Looking out my window again Mt Sutro is empty. Not even a shadow stands in place of where the tower was this morning.
5. I wonder what it would be like to walk up there. It’s been a long time since I put one foot in front of the other like that.
6. Shunryu Suzuki said that enlightenment was like walking through the San Francisco fog. You do not know you are getting wet, until suddenly you look down and realize that you’re soaked.
7. Walking towards Mt Sutro, the tower still isn’t coming into focus. The shadow of its base surely covered in layers of this ocean haze.
8. And as I walk, trying to find the moment the tower breaks through, I can feel each step in my feet. Louder now. “The foot feels the foot when the foot feels the ground.” Louder still.
9. i reach the summit. the tower is gone. my dress is soaked.
