Ahhh hm ërg Ahhh
eëëëëëeeeëëëëëëëëëëëëëëëëëëëëëëëëeeeeeëeeee
So you want to build a bomb?
Wait—hrmm—that can’t be right.
So you want to build a life that works for you?
A life where you’re afforded all the freedoms you desire? Where love triumphs over hate and where every border is abolished and the state and the state and the state? Nobody is more anxious than me, man. My oven just beeped saying it was pre-heated (making tater-tots) and I accidentally shot it. With my gun. America.
I voted for a cop today. And that cop voted for a fascist. And that fascist? Ryan-fucking-Reynolds, dude. You’d never believe it. He kept whispering in my ear to “sign up for Mint Mobile” and when I told him I’m already a loyal subscriber (here’s my referral code) he ALSO shot my oven. America. What a magical fucking place.
Do you know what the kicker for me, in all this, really is? It’s that no matter what happens tonight, no matter who the president becomes, whether that’s Ryan Reynolds or Obama, my toilet still needs to be scrubbed in the morning. I think there’s something wrong with the pipes in my building and if I don’t scrub it regularly enough it gets this nasty ass yellow film all over it. I propose that there is no correlation between the yellow film and my health and well being whether or not that’s also my drinking water. This is my god damn country and I can believe whatever the New York Times tells me to, okay? And they said that the Flint water crisis can’t be solved. So just leave it alone already.
Tomorrow the sun will rise just as it always does and me and 333 million other people in collective unison will also rise and I will join them in our daily chorus of yelling at the sun. Why does it keep appearing?? It just went away last night! Make up your mind! And why is it so bright?? Stop that. Just stop. It’s cringe. And it’s getting old.
No, but in all seriousness. I think we should be scared. Maybe you want me to tell you to not be scared but I’m scared too so idk what to tell you. I can talk to you about love, and what love is and what love means and not like “i love you so much you’re my favorite puppy girl i ever dated” type love but like… “the most evil amongst us are also worthy of love” type love. And that’s fine and that’s good but also maybe that’s for another day.
Then, what’s for today? For tonight? I don’t know. I haven’t decided yet. It’s almost 5pm PST on election night and I’m sitting alone in my apartment. Tater-tots are in the oven. This evening I’m volunteering for a crisis hotline, taking calls to talk to people who are in crisis. I’m not really sure what to expect doing that on election night but I bet we can all take a guess about what the content of the calls are gonna be. So maybe there’s this: each other. Scared? It’s a good time to lean the fuck in.
Connect with others, connect with who is available. No matter what happens tonight, this next year is going to be a good time for other people. Getting out of our heads and our bubbles and building deep human relationships. It’s the only way we’re gonna get through this, bestie.
In the meantime, have some album and TV recommendations from me to help you pass time time and to feel some love.
Music Recommendations
Florist by Florist — this is a gentle and deeply cathartic indie folk ambient album. This is my go to comfort music.
Diamond Jubilee by Cindy Lee — it’s like if you combined the last 5 decades with the next 2 decades, put it in the back of a really long hallway, and made an indie rock album. 11/10.
Patterns in Repeat by Laura Marling — very pretty singer songwriter
Ma by Devandra Banhart — goofy Buddhist genreless rock
Finally We Are No One by Múm — slow majestic Icelandic dazzles with stunning vocals

Myopia by Nicole Miglis — by the visionary that brought you Hundred Waters, chill electronic beautiful
Get Up by NewJeans — Kpop but like, imagine they just hired the dopest fucking producers available and just went all out.
The Blue Notebooks by Max Richter — contemporary classical. You’ve heard lots of these tracks during the most dramatic parts of various movies.
Dariacore 2 by c0ncernn — samples from major pop songs mashed altogether very very fast. Trans girl thrashing music. Same artist as Jane Remover.
Sophcore by Moses Sumney — how are people still sleeping on this artist. R&B? Idk. No one cares. Nothing matters. Listen.
